The 2017 EBA Western Chapter Meeting will be held at the Palace Hotel, in San Francisco, CA on February 23-24, 2017.

The Chapter is excited to annouce that Chief Judge Carmen Cintron of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will give the keynote address. This is a wonderful opportunity for attendees to receive a first-hand account of the FERC's current priorities and significant developments. Your registration includes a welcome cocktail reception on February 23rd, a perfect networking opportunity.

Program Overview:

The energy industry in the Western United States has undergone a dramatic change in recent years – the rapid growth of renewable resources and distributed generation, adoption of energy storage targets, the expansion of the CAISO’s energy imbalance market, significant events impacting natural gas transportation and storage, and the adoption of state initiatives to curb greenhouse gases.  Some consider these changes evolutionary, others see them as revolutionary.  The change in administration in Washington will likely bring further change, or highlight the differences in state and national goals.  The Energy Bar Association’s Western Chapter Annual Meeting is designed to address many of these groundbreaking issues through a dialogue with industry and government leaders.  We are hopeful that participants in our Annual Meeting will leave with new insights into key issues and trends that will impact the energy industry in 2017, and for years to come!

3:00 pm to 4:15 pm  Revolutionary Changes in Electric Distribution and Customer Choice

For decades, utilities operated their electric transmission and distribution systems and provided energy to all of the customers in their service territories.  That business model is rapidly changing.  Increasingly, large customers are pursuing their own procurement options, whether through distributed generation or direct contracting.  This panel will provide a variety of perspectives on how these changes have impacted the energy industry so far, and what we can expect to see in the near future.
