In September 2017, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria with impacts that will last for years to come. In June 2018, Governor Ricardo Rosselló signed a bill into law that established the methodology for the sale of their government-owned utility, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. Subsequent to that decision, the Southern States Energy Board formed a Blue Ribbon Task Force in concert with the Government of Puerto Rico to strategize their need for an electric policy that works based on the privatization of the utility and a regulatory framework (public utilities commission) suitable to the needs of the Commonwealth. Mr. Nemeth will present the recent task force activities along with policy and regulatory framework actions by the Government of Puerto Rico that are necessary to provide its citizens with a  reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric grid system.
