SUMMARY:EBA Energy Law Academy Course 108: An Introduction to Environmental Law
DESCRIPTION:Course 108 provides an overview of environmental law\, principally at the federal level\, for newer environmental and energy lawyers and energy transactional lawyers seeking a practical foundation in environmental laws and regulations. \n\n\n\nThis course will provide an overview of environmental law\, principally at the federal level. The course begins with a brief overview of the purpose of environmental law and regulation\, and the interplay of federal\, state and local laws. Our faculty will then provide an overview of the key federal environmental laws and their impact on the energy industry. The laws addressed will include the major statutes (National Environmental Policy Act\, Clean Air Act\, Clean Water Act\, etc.). For each\, the faculty will address who regulates\, who is regulated\, what is regulated\, and how it is regulated. The course will then address environmental law considerations in project development\, system operations\, and energy transactions (in particular\, how environmental law factors into transaction due diligence). Finally\, we will explain environmental law practice before the relevant agencies\, such as the Environmental Protection Agency\, including the rulemaking process and judicial review of the rules and other final agency actions\, citizen suits\, and enforcement and related litigation. \n\n\n\nThis course is intended for new energy lawyers practicing environmental law and energy transaction lawyers who need an overview of environmental laws and regulations. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, October 28\, 2026\n\n\n\n12:00 – 12:45 PM – Registration and Lunch\n\n\n\n12:45 – 1:00 PM – Welcome\, Opening Remarks\, and Program Overview\n\n\n\n1:00 – 2:15 PM – Overview of Environmental Law\n\n\n\nThis session will provide an overview of the purpose of environmental statutes and regulation\, with a focus on the interplay of federal\, state and local laws and how obligations arise under the various laws. \n\n\n\n\n\nEdward (Ted) BolingPartnerAshurst Perkins Coie\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2:30 – 4:30 PM – Key Federal and State Environmental Laws and Their Impact on the Energy Industry\n\n\n\nThis session will provide an overview of the key federal and state environmental laws and their impact on the energy industry.
