SUMMARY:Energy Law Academy Course 107: Energy Trading
DESCRIPTION:In this course\, energy lawyers will learn the fundamentals of energy trading. Our faculty will introduce participants to the purposes and benefits of trading\, basic concepts in trading\, the energy products that are commonly traded\, and the markets in which they are traded. Our faculty will discuss the regulators overseeing energy trading\, how trades are documented\, and who the major trading platforms are and how they operate. Finally\, we will provide a detailed discussion of corporate decarbonization\, drawing on the concepts covered in the course to explain.  \n\n\n\n\nRegister now!\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, June 3 (all times are Central) \n\n\n\n11:30 AM – Registration and Lunch\n\n\n\n12:00 PM – 12:15 PM – Welcome and Opening Remarks\n\n\n\n12:15 PM – 1:30 PM – Introduction to Energy Trading\n\n\n\nThis session will offer an introduction to energy trading including the purpose of trading transactions and the benefits of trading.  \n\n\n\n1:45 PM – 3:00 PM – Energy Transactions \n\n\n\nIn this session\, our faculty will explore in greater depth the types of transactions entered into in the energy industry\, including standardized products\, physical and financial products\, and customized transactions. Our faculty also will explain the personnel and their roles\, from front office to back office. \n\n\n\n3:15 PM – 4:30 PM – Products – What are They & Some of the Lingo \n\n\n\nIn this session\, our faculty will explain in greater detail the various products being traded\, both physical and financial. This session will provide a solid introduction to common trading lingo. \n\n\n\n4:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Break and Q&A with Faculty\n\n\n\n5:00 PM – 6:00 PM – Networking Reception with EBA Texas Chapter\n\n\n\nThursday\, June 4 (all times are Central)\n\n\n\n7:30 AM – Breakfast Available \n\n\n\n8:00 AM – 8:15 AM- Introductory and Recap Remarks \n\n\n\n8:15 AM – 9:15 AM- Regulators\n\n\n\nIn this session\, our faculty will discuss the relevant regulators in the energy trading markets. \n\n\n\n9:15 AM – 10:30 AM – Trading Documentation \n\n\n\nIn this session\, our faculty will provide an introduction to the key trading agreements commonly used in energy transactions. \n\n\n\n10:45 AM – 11:45 AM – Trading Platforms \n\n\n\nIn this session\, our faculty will provide an overview of the major energy trading platforms. \n\n\n\n11:45 AM – 12:30 PM- Corporate Decarbonization \n\n\n\nOur primer will conclude with a discussion of the changing landscape of corporate decarbonization\, with practical guidance and clear perspectives on how to manage carbon-related risks and opportunities. This session will give an overview of the main issues shaping carbon management today\, including regulatory and market drivers in the U.S. and abroad\, the challenges of measuring and reducing emissions across value chains\, the growing role of carbon credits and removals\, and the interplay between regulated and voluntary carbon markets. Participants can expect to gain a greater understanding of the evolving and developing carbon markets throughout the globe as well as opportunities and challenges that may confront their companies. \n\n\n\n12:30 PM- Closing Remarks
