On Thursday, July 6, FERC Commissioner Mark C. Christie joined Foundation of the Energy Law Journal (FELJ) Editor-in-Chief Harvey Reiter for a summer FELJ Author Talk, discussing his article “It’s Time To Reconsider Single-Clearing Price Mechanisms in U.S. Energy Markets.” Commissioner Christie stated “the goal of regulators always ought to be delivering reliable power at the least cost.”

He and Reiter discussed the function of RTOs as “first and foremost a balancing authority,” and emphasized their ability to dispatch resources on an economically efficient basis across wide regions. Commissioner Christie and Reiter also discussed deregulated energy states, capacity markets, the transition to RTOs, and formula rate authority and issues.
